Velasco, New Regional Director

Dr. Teresita Marrero-Velasco assumed post as the new Regional Director (RD) of the Department of Education Regional Office (RO) 1 effective April 1, 2012.

RD Velasco, Director III, OIC- Office of the Regional Director of  RO1replaced Director Ligaya Soledad T. Miguel, Ed.D., CESO III who retired on March 31, 2012 after 46 years of serving the Department of Education.

In her response after retired RD Miguel turned over the key of responsibility during the Command and Responsibility Ceremony held at the Regional Educational Learning Center (RELC), San Fernando City, La Union last April 2, 2012, RD Velasco said, “ Indeed, it is a pleasure to be assigned to a performing Region. With all the things handed to me, with the support of all the offices and personnel, not because of the leader but because of the people who believe that we can achieve everything, I humbly accept Region I.”

Velasco underscored that even if an official  is number 1 in terms of position, he cannot stand alone. “We in the department think of what’s best for our department. I don’t presume to know better than anyone but with a united working force, I believe we can all make a difference” she emphasized.

“In the course of working together for the incoming days, I can ask for information from you who knows better because you are from here. What you and I can do, I expect you to always support one another,’ she stressed.

RD Velasco further said that she will stand tall because we are all with her knowing that we all have one vision. She continued by saying that it is an opportunity to work with friends but a challenge at the same time.

She ended her speech with this, “ In the presence of everyone here today and in the next years to come, let us dream that if we all work together as one, we will work things out to make Region 1 still the no. 1.” #

The new structure of Rationalization Program of the Department of Education (DepEd), the administrative workforce of DepEd Region I and Schools Division Offices participated in the 3-day Regional Training on Enhancing and Strengthening Regional and Division Administrative Services. 50 participants to this activity composed of Administrative Officers, Human Resource Management Officers and Administrative Assistantsfrom different schools division offices in region I.
Regional Director Teresita M. Velasco of the Department of Education Regional Office I (DepEd-ROI) expressed zestfulness as two National High Schools in the Region qualify for this year’s Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz (PNSQ) to be held at the Diamond Hotel, Manila in December 2015.
The Sinait National High School (SNHS) in Sinait, Ilocos Sur and the Dingras National High School (DNHS) in Dingras, Ilocos Norte were announced as winners after they were included in the top four among the 37 participating schools (public and private) in the Cluster Level Elimination Round held at the Vigan Central School covered court in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur last September 2.
Part of the K to 12 Basic Education Program implementation effort is the development of instructional resources aligned to the goals and objectives of today’s DepEd banner program. To this end, Region 1 pool of K to 12 champions got themselves actively involved in the contextualization of Grade 3 Learners’ Materials (LMs).
City of San Fernando (La Union) – In support with the Department of Education (DepEd)’s drive on ensuring the quality of education in the country, DepEd R-I chaired by Dir. Teresita M. Velasco regulates fast tracking on filling up remaining Teaching Positions in the region.
