DepEd ROI gears up for RSPC 2013

To ensure a successful conduct of the 2013 Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) on February 13-15 at Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, the Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office I (ROI) under the leadership of Director Teresita M. Velasco prepared for it through planning conferences.

The first meeting was conducted at the Regional Education Learning Center (RELC), Dr. Vivian Luz S. Pagatpatan, Chief of Elementary Education Division (EED), Mrs. Dinah Bonao, Education Program Supervisor (EPS) I Incharge of Journalism and all EPS I of the 13 divisions of Region 1 attended the training.

Other participants were officers of the Association of Secondary School Paper Advisers of Region I (ASSPAR I) headed by Mr. Jacinto Pascua and officers of the Association of Elementary School Paper Advisers Region I (AESPAR I) headed by Mr. Joel Remigio, both from the Division of Laoag City (LC).

Moreover, the other meeting was held at the DepEd ROI Library, January 4. Dr. Pagatpatan; Dr. Marceli Macob, Assistant Chief of EED; Mrs.Dinah Bonao, Dr. Arlene Niro, Mrs. Rica Perez, Mr. Oscar Flores, Mr. Pascua, Mr. Remigio and the all EPS I of the 13 divisions of Region 1 attended the said planning conference.

The categories to be contested are: Individual Contests (News Writing, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Cartooning, Sports Writing, Photojournalism, and Copyreading and Headline Writing, both in English and Filipino and Editorial Writing and News Writing for Iloko); Group Contests (Collaborative Publishing, Scriptwriting and Radio Broadcasting, English and Filipino).

Furthermore, the other activities will be Concurrent Sessions; Awarding of the Best School Papers; Noncontestants’ Activities; Awarding of Outstanding School Paper Advisers (SPAs) and Campus Journalists (CJs).

The theme of the conference will be “Campus Journalism: Championing Ethics in Social Media.”

Part of the K to 12 Basic Education Program implementation effort is the development of instructional resources aligned to the goals and objectives of today’s DepEd banner program. Lucky Joy T. Miguel, a native of Binacag, Banna, Ilocos Norte, finished her race and earned a special award during the recently concluded 8th Graduation Day of the Alternative Learning System (ALS), a free education program of the Department of Education (DepEd) on July 4, 2015 at San Nicolas Central Elementary School, Ilocos Norte.
